Design & Site-Specific Planning:
Designed by Love Schack Architecture this house was crafted to take in the sweeping views of Teton Valley, Idaho with a strong focus on views to the Teton Mountain Range.
Materials & Construction Detailing:
Heavy timber entry framing, living room trusses, and back deck roof trusses anchor the traditional design of this mountain home. Lots of bonus space over the garage allows multiple generations of family to enjoy this house together. Board and batten siding and local, Idaho Oakley stone veneer provide a rustic aesthetic to this home. Interior details include alder cabinetry and trim and solid quartz counters and shower surround.
Build Process & Problem Solving:
This project was built off grid with a solar trailer providing much of the power for construction. Elevated Timberworks + Custom Construction worked with Love Schack Architecture to finalize the entry and truss framing details to utilize traditional mortice and tendon with wood peg joinery details.
Unique Aspects:
This project is off the grid with a solar array to provide primary power to house. An electric heat pump HVAC system keeps the house comfortable most of the time, but there is propane back up heat for the coldest of nights in the depths of the Teton Valley winter when the battery storage runs low. To keep that heat in, air-tight detailing is used in conjunction with Elevated Timberworks + Custom Construction’s proprietary, R-36, double stud wall assembly and a R-70 blanket of blown cellulose in the roof trusses.
